Overview

Mr Pieter D’Hooghe is a leading specialist in keyhole surgery and sports-related tendon injuries of the foot and ankle. His patient-focused approach is backed by extensive international experience, supporting both elite athletes and everyday patients in regaining full function and performance.

He is a recognised expert in Sports Traumatology and has led medical teams at global sporting events including the Football World Championship, Arab Cup and Asian Cup, as well as international championships in athletics, gymnastics, cycling, and swimming.

Mr D’Hooghe holds multiple advanced degrees including a PhD, an MSc in Sports Medicine, a Master in Tropical Medicine, and an MBA in Sports Management. He speaks seven languages and is passionate about education, serving as Associate Professor at Weill Cornell University and Visiting Professor at the University of Minnesota.

He has published over 180 peer-reviewed papers, written 50+ book chapters, and edited 9 textbooks on lower limb sports injuries. He also works with elite teams across Europe, the USA, and Asia, including Champions League football clubs. Most recently, he was appointed as director of the UEFA Team Physician Course 2026.
